Haslam to Focus on Post-Secondary Education

Today, Governor Bill Haslam kicked off his effort to review higher education in Tennessee.  He hosted the three higher education boards, UT, TBR, and THEC, as well as representatives from TSAC, TICUA, Tennessee Business Roundtable, Tennessee Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and some legislators from the House and Senate.  Presenters, invited by Haslam, were:

  • Bill Tucker, Deputy Director of Policy Devleopment with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation;
  • Nicole Smith, Research Professor and Senior Economist at the Goergetown Center on Education and the Workforce; and
  • Bill Zumeta, co-author of Financing Higher Education in the Era of Globalization.

It was mentioned that later this month the Governor will begin a series of meetings across the state with businesses and postsecondary institutions to learn about collaborations that are working in communities and areas where we need to improve.  Although the dates and locations for the seven stops have not been released, we will post this information as soon as it is available.
