Primary Election Results

Based on unofficial election returns, eight incumbents lost elections in the state House of Representatives yesterday.  Not included in this number are the races where Democrats were matched against each other through redistricting.  In those races, Sen. Jim Kyle defeated Sen. Beverly Marrero, Rep. G.A. Hardaway defeated 38-year veteran and second longest serving member of the House Mike Kernell, Rep. John DeBerry defeated Rep. Jeanne Richardson, and Rep. Jo Ann Favors defeated Rep. Tommie Brown. No incumbents, with the exception of Marrero, lost in the Senate.

UT Advocacy will be sending out a general election survey on higher education issues to all candidates running for the Tennessee General Assembly.  We will post these results prior to the start of early voting for the general election.

For your convenience, yesterday’s primary election results are listed below by district.

1	Jon Lundberg faced no primary opponent.  He has no Democratic challenger for the general election.
2	Rep. Tony Shipley defeated Ben Mallicote by 11 votes.  Rep. Shipley will face Democrat Bruce Dotson in the general election.
3	Republican Timothy Hill won the primary.  He will face Democrat Leah Kirk in the general election.
4	Republican Thomas Gray was unopposed in the primary.  He has no Democratic challenger in the general election.
5	Rep. David Hawk won a contested race and will face former Rep. Eddie Yokley whom he originally defeated 4 years ago.
6	Republican Rep. Dale Ford was defeated by newcomer James Van Huss.  Van Huss will face Democrat Michael Clark in the general election.
7	Republican Rep. Matthew Hill faced no primary challenger.  Hill will face Democrat Nancy Fischman in the general election.
8	Rep. Art Swann defeated challengers.  He faces no general election opponent.
9	Rep. Mike Harrison was unopposed.  He faces no general election opponent.
10	Incumbent Don Miller was defeated by Tilman Goins.  Goins does not have a general election opponent.
11	Rep. Jeremy Faison defeated his challenger in the Republican primary. He will face Democrat Marjorie Ramsey in the general election.
12	Rep. Richard Montgomery was defeated by Dale Carr.  Carr faces no opposition for the general election.
13	Gary Loe defeated UT Intern Vanderbilt Brabson in the Republican primary.  Loe will face Democrat Gloria Johnson in the general election.
14	Republican Rep. Ryan Haynes was unopposed.  He will face Democrat Jerome Q. Miller in the general election.
15	Rep. Joe Armstrong was unopposed and has no Republican opponent for November.
16	Rep. Bill Dunn was unopposed and has no Democratic opponent for November.
17	Andrew Farmer defeated his two challengers in the Republican primary.  Farmer will face Democrat Mike Dockery in November.
18	Rep. Steve Hall faced no opposition in the Republican primary.  Hall will face Democrat Anthony Hancock in November.
19	Rep. Harry Brooks was unopposed and has no Democratic opponent for November.
20	Rep. Bob Ramsey defeated challengers and has no Democratic opponent for November.
21	Rep. Jimmy Matlock was unopposed in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Andrew Bennett in the general election.
22	Rep. Eric Watson defeated a challenger in the Republican primary.  Watson will face Democrat Jonathan Gladden in November.
23	Rep. John Forgety was unopposed in the Republican primary.  He will face Democrat Peggy Hall Wall in the general election.
24	Rep. Kevin Brooks defeated his challenger and has no opposition in the general election.
25	Rep. Cameron Sexton was unopposed in the Republican primary.  He faces Democrat Flo Matheson in November.
26	Rep. Gerald McCormick was unopposed in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Lawrence Miller in November.
27	Rep. Richard Floyd defeated his challenger in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Frank Eaton in the general election.
28	Rep. Joanne Favors defeated Rep. Tommie Brown in the Democratic primary.  Rep. Favors will face Republican Johnny Horne in November.
29	Republican Mike Carter faced no opposition.  He faces no opponent for the general election.
30	Republican Rep. Vince Dean was unopposed.  He will face Democrat Sandy Norris Smith in November.
31	Ron Travis defeated Rep. Jim Cobb by 105 votes in the Republican primary.  Travis faces no opposition for the general election.
32	Republican Rep. Julia Hurley was defeated by Kent Calfee.  Calfee will face Democrat Jack McNew in November.
33	Rep. John Ragan had no Republican opposition.  Ragan will face former Democratic Rep. Jim Hackworth in November.
34	Republican Rep. Rick Womick had no opposition and will face Democrat Luke Dickerson in November.
35	Dennis “Coach” Roach was unopposed in the Republican primary.  He has no Democratic opposition for the general election.
36	Rep. Dennis Powers was unopposed in the Republican primary.  He has no challenger for the general election.
37	Dawn White won the Republican primary and will face Democrat Robert “Bob” New in the general election.
38	Republican Rep. Kelly Keisling faced no opposition.  He will face Democrat David Harper in November.
39	Republican Rep. David Alexander was unopposed.  He will face Democrat Doug Clark in the general election.
40	Republican Rep. Terri Lynn Weaver was unopposed and will face Democrat Sarah Marie Smith in November.
41	Rep. John Mark Windle ran unopposed in the Democratic primary and will face Republican Bobby Stewart in November.
42	Rep. Ryan Williams was unopposed in the Republican primary.  He will face Democrat Thomas Willoughby in the general election.
43	Republican Robert Dunham defeated his opponent and will face Democratic Rep. Charles Curtiss in November.
44	Republican William Lamberth was unopposed and will face Democrat Steven Glaser in the general election.
45	Rep. Debra Maggart was defeated by Courtney Rogers.  Rogers will face Democrat Jeanette Jackson in November.
46	Republican Rep. Mark Pody was unopposed.  He does not have a Democratic opponent for the general election.
47	Republican Rep. Judd Matheny was unopposed and will face Democrat Scott Price in November.

58	Democratic Rep. Mary Pruitt was defeated by Harold Love by 41 votes.  Love does not have a Republican opponent for the general election.
59	Democratic Rep. Sherry Jones was unopposed and will face Republican Robert Duvall in November.
60	Rep. Jim Gotto was unopposed in the Republican primary and will face Democrat Darren Jernigan in November.
61	Rep. Charles Sargent easily defeated his challenger and faces no Democratic opposition in the general election.
62	Republican Rep. Pat Marsh was unopposed and does not face opposition in the general election.
63	Republican Rep. Glen Casada was unopposed and does not face opposition in the general election.
64	Republican Rep. Sheila Butt was unopposed.  She will face Democrat Brian Brewer in the general election.
65	Republican Jeremy Durham defeated his challengers and faces no opposition in the general election.
66	Rep. Josh Evans defeated Lee Harrell.  He faces no opposition in the general election.
67	Democratic Rep. Joe Pitts was unopposed and does not have a challenger for the general election.

73	Republican Rep. Jimmy Eldridge will face Democrat Corey Currie in the general election.
74	Republican Lauri Day defeated her challenger and will face Democratic Rep. John Tidwell in November.
75	Rep. Tim Wirgau was unopposed in the primary and will face Democrat Steve Wright in the general election.
76	Rep. Andy Holt was unopposed in the primary and will face Democrat and former Rep. Mark Maddox in the general election.

10	Todd Gardenhire defeated his challenger by 15 votes.  Gardenhire will face Democrat Andrae’ McGary in the general election.
12	Republican Rep. Ken Yager ran unopposed.  He will not face a challenger in the general election.
14	Sen. Jim Tracy defeated his opponent.  He will not face a challenger in the general election.
16	Republican Janice Bowling defeated 3 other candidates and will compete with Democrat Jim Lewis who defeated 4 other candidates.
18	Former Sen. Ferrell Haile defeated his challengers. Haile served for 3 months to fill the vacancy of Former TN Sen. Diane Black. He will face Democrat Maria Brewer in the general election.
20	Republican Steve Dickerson will run against Democrat Phillip North for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Joe Haynes.
22	Democratic Sen. Tim Barnes will face Republican Mark E. Green in the general election.
24	Republican John Stevens will run against Democrat Brad Thompson for the seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Roy Herron.
26	Republican Sen. Delores Gresham was unopposed.  She will face Democrat Meryl Rice in November.
