The Tennessee General Assembly has officially set the date for the Governor’s State of the State Address. On Monday, February 3 at 6:00 PM CST, Governor Bill Haslam will deliver to lawmakers and other dignitaries his 2014 priorities– priorities heavily expected to center on education.
The Governor officially launched his “Drive to 55” Initiative in September 2013. The initiative’s goal, as indicated by its name, is to increase the percentage of Tennesseans with a post-secondary credential in order to meet Tennessee’s current and future workforce and economic needs. Current figures reveal that only 32 percent of Tennesseans have a certificate or degree beyond high school. The Governor’s goal is to increase that figure to 55 percent by the year 2025. Higher education proposals relating to the “Drive to 55” are expected to be revealed in the State of the State address.
