House Passes State Budget

House lawmakers passed the state’s $37 billion budget on Friday, just one day after a blowup on the House Floor where member amendments pushed the budget almost half a billion dollars out of balance.

On Friday, members hit the reset button, stripping off all amendments added to the budget on Thursday and presenting a “clean slate” for lawmakers to consider.  Members elected to make a change to $55 million in road funding agreed to by the Governor and the Senate, sending the funding directly to Tennessee county general road funds instead of the Tennessee Department of Transportation.

The Senate is expected to adopt the amended budget on Monday evening, leading to a mid-week anticipated adjournment.
