A bill was taken “off-notice” this week that would have required college students to pass a United States civics test prior to receiving an associate or baccalaureate’s degree. The test would have been the same as the one administered by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to individuals seeking citizenship. The measure was sponsored by Rep. Sheila Butt (R-Columbia).
